Bridgerama

Proceeds from Bridgerama are designated by The Foundation for Mount Nittany Medical Center for the purchase of Communicall systems for senior citizens who cannot afford them. The Communicall alert devices are administered through the Social Services department of Mount Nittany Medical Center and are installed by Bell Telephone volunteers.

The Foundation for Mount Nittany Medical Center (formerly Auxiliary) Bridgearama program has begun the 2010/2011 season. Bridgearama is a fund-raising project (participants donated over $1,400 this year) of The Foundation that assists in annually subsidizing the Communi-Call emergency phone response system for several community residents.

Teams of two individuals can select to play during the daytime and/or in the evening with their placement in divisions or flights assigned, more or less, randomly. This year, three flights of eight teams each played during the day, and three flights of eight teams each played in the evening. For each flight, the season consisted of a round-robin-type of seven monthly games of 20 dealt bridge hands among that flight's teams played from October 2008 through April 2009.

The daytime winners and place winners for the 2008-2009 season, respectively, were: Flight No. 1- Virginia Robertson and Ferne Traynor, 1st; Jane Derr and Jean Landy, 2nd; Carole Batcheler and Bea Mellinger, 3rd. Flight No. 2- Margery Fleming and Mary Lisko; 1st; Annie Harvey and Nancy Smith 2nd; Anne Anderson and Peggy Moyer, 3rd. Flight No. 3- Ruth Hollender and Sue Hutchison; 1st, Helen Cosgrove and Emma Nearhoff, and Alta Perks and Janice Shapiro, tied for 2nd.

The evening winners and place winners, respectively, were: Flight No.1- George and Annie Harvey, 1st; Jim and Marty Starling, 2nd; Dick and Jean Landy, 3rd. Flight No. 2- Nicholas and Marie Landiak, 1st; Bill and Carole Batcheler, 2nd; Dean and Judy Murray, 3rd. Flight No. 3- Ken and Irene Harpster, 1st; Max and Shirley Coploff, 2nd; Tom and Jane Derr, 3rd.

Highest single total score across all seven card-playing sessions among daytime and evening teams was recorded by Virginia Robertson and Ferne Traynor, playing in the day bracket, Flight No. 1. The highest single-game score was set by George and Annie Harvey during their February 2009 game in the evening, Flight No. 1.

The winning team of the card party after this year's luncheon was the duo of Marie Landiak and Jeanne Lydon with Ella Ebeling and Celia Church placing second.

The first-place flight winners who attended the luncheon, the high-score single game team for the year, and this year's luncheon's high-score duo were awarded flowers.
