26th Annual Mount Nittany Medical Center Golf Classic Committee

The 26th Annual Mount Nittany Medical Center Golf Classic, held Saturday, August 13, at the Penn State Golf Courses, netted more than $147,000, with all proceeds supporting an expansion of the Mount Nittany Medical Center Cardiac Catheterization Lab. In total, more than $2.1 million has been raised to help advance healthcare in the region since the Golf Classic’s inception in 1991.

The fully accredited Cardiac Catheterization Lab is used during an emergency to intervene when a patient is having a heart attack; it can also be used to identify and correct other health conditions of the heart. The renovation and expansion of the Lab will support a new catheterization table with an imaging system and an advanced patient monitoring system.

“We continue to be thankful for the outstanding support of this community that comes together to help us advance high-quality healthcare in our region by raising more than $2.1 million in the Golf Classic’s 26-year history,” said Melissa Aungst, foundation specialist, Mount Nittany Health Foundation.

According to Mount Nittany Health Foundation staff who organized the event, 244 golfers teed off, and more than 100 volunteers assisted with coordination of the day.

A unique feature of Mount Nittany Medical Center’s Golf Classic is the random drawing of one registered golfer for a grand prize of $10,000 or a Subaru Impreza. This year’s winner was Aaron Roan, DMD, who chose the car. The tournament also featured a 50/50 raffle. This year’s winner was Lynnae Knapp, who won $1,645.  The online auction through Bidding for Good raised $17,860.

Team prizes for each flight were awarded to the top 16 teams placing 1-4 in both net and gross scores. The four first-place teams on the Blue Course and White Course were:

  • First-place team gross score: Blue Course – Stocker Subaru: Garrett Bastardi, Jess Bastardi, Joe Bastardi, and John Muto

  • Second-place team gross score: Blue Course – UPMC Health Plan: Brad Rorabaugh, Brian Tustin, Bryan Beppler, and Dennis Unger
