The 70th Annual Mount Nittany Medical Center Charity Ball, themed A Glamorous Evening in Old Hollywood, raised more than $200,000 for palliative care services at the Medical Center.

One of Mount Nittany Health Foundation’s premier fundraisers, more than 600 attendees gathered at The Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center for the event, chaired by Gina Woskob, Saturday, February 24, 2018. Guests enjoyed chef prepared, “Old Hollywood” themed cuisine stations while listening to the sounds of crowd favorite, Philadelphia-based dance band, EBE Events & Entertainment’s Monte Carlo.

“I want to sincerely thank the Foundation, Charity Ball committee and the community for joining together in support of palliative care services at the Medical Center,” says Kathleen Rhine, president and CEO, Mount Nittany Health. “It was very moving to see so many people come together to help support area patients and families needing comfort and hope during a difficult time.”

Corporate sponsors, including Producer-level sponsors, Alexander – A Butz Family Company, Mount Nittany Physician Group, Centre Emergency Medical Associates, Eclipse Resources, Geisinger and PSECU; individual donations; ticket sales; online auction; and the Mercedes-Benz European Driving Adventure Raffle — courtesy of Mercedes-Benz of State College — helped to make the evening a success. More than $21,200 was raised by the raffle. The online auction raised nearly $40,000, and gave bidders the opportunity to bid on more than 100 items ranging from local gift cards to sports packages, spa retreats, fine jewelry and more.

“Charity Ball is such a rewarding event to be a part of,” says Woskob. “I enjoy celebrating a wonderful evening to support a great cause. Choosing to benefit palliative care this year has a lot of meaning knowing that we are impacting needed services at the Medical Center. I have been fortunate to work with such dedicated committee members who all bring such different talents and connections to the community.”

At the Medical Center, palliative care services provide specialized medical care that focuses on symptom management, emotional support, advance care planning and relief from the stress of life-limiting illness for patients with serious and chronic illness. Palliative care is not dependent on prognosis, and is offered in conjunction with curative and all other appropriate forms of medical treatment.

“The goal of palliative care is to improve quality of life for patients and their families through holistic medical care and through the end stages of life,” shares Jacqueline Hahn, RN, BS, CCN, director of case management, Mount Nittany Medical Center. “The proceeds of the Charity Ball will help to ensure that our patients, families, friends and neighbors who are facing serious illness are provided with the best possible palliative care services at the Medical Center.”

Next year’s Charity Ball is scheduled for Saturday, February 23, 2019.
