Mount Nittany Health Golf Classic contributes to COVID-19 response fund

Since its inception, the Mount Nittany Health Golf Classic has raised over $2.8 million to improve the quality of life for people of our region by supporting critical programs, services and vital capital projects. The event was sparked through the imagination of Fred Carlin, OD, and Gene Stocker in 1990 with a desire to make a positive impact on healthcare. There is no doubt the event has achieved this goal by enabling the purchase of everything from critical care beds to supporting the creation of an advanced cardiovascular pavilion.

The Mount Nittnay Health Foundation planning committee recognizes that the COVID-19 pandemic has created uncharted waters, but is pleased to announce that the 30th annual Golf Classic will proceed, with some significant changes, as scheduled on Saturday, August 8, 2020. This year, we look forward to celebrating three decades of fundraising with a meaningful impact on the health and wellness of our shared community.

While this year’s event may look a bit different, the purpose remains the same - to support the work of our community’s healthcare leader, Mount Nittany Health. This is why the committee has designated all proceeds from this year’s event to the Mount Nittany Health COVID-19 Response Fund. The fund, established earlier this year, was designed to be flexible and meet the evolving needs of the pandemic. The Fund will be used for patient care, including testing, medication, medical supplies and staff support. The fund continues to enable our clinical staff provide safe, high-quality care to patients and the community.

To protect the health and wellbeing of our sponsors, golfers and the entire community, special measures are being taken for this year’s event, per Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Professional Golfers' Association guidelines. Enhanced safety measures will include practicing social distancing while golfing, staggered tee times, and limited number of golfers.

Not a golfer? You can still support the event and the COVID-19 Response Fund via the Golf Classic online auction. Hosted through Bidding for Good, the auction will open on Monday, July 27, and close on Tuesday, August 11, at noon.
