Mount Nittany Health's Dr. Veeral Patel, Radiation Oncology, and Dr. Aderonke Ajala, Hematology and Medical Oncology, discuss Missy's treatment plan

As we celebrate the 90th anniversary of National Doctors’ Day, we honor our doctors for all they do for their patients and the community. Mount Nittany Health’s doctors provide comprehensive care to patients from diagnosis through to treatment and survivorship. At the heart of their work are the relationships with people who are dealing with the uncertainty of potentially life-changing health issues.

In honor of our doctors, we wish to share Missy Quick’s story with you. Missy is co-owner of Kinetik Fitness, a local fitness center. In her late 40s she began experiencing pain, and when the pain worsened her doctor scheduled a screening.

What happened next was devastating; Missy learned she had colorectal cancer

“Receiving a cancer diagnosis at my age was not something I ever expected,” said Missy. “It was a relief to know the specialized care I needed was available nearby at Mount Nittany Health.”

Missy received treatment at the Shaner Cancer Pavilion at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Her doctors, Dr. Veeral Patel, Radiation Oncology, and Dr. Aderonke Ajala, Hematology and Medical Oncology, along with patient navigators, made up her team of caregivers.

“A cancer diagnosis is life-changing,” said Dr. Ajala. “I’m blessed to be able to help my patients and share their journey with them.”

Mount Nittany Health’s comprehensive services, particularly in cancer care, made it possible for Missy to receive care close to home. Saving the stress of needing to travel for care and having a team of providers working closely together, had a significant impact on Missy’s experience.

“I’m proud to be part of a team accredited by the Commission on Cancer,” said Dr. Patel. “This national accreditation validates our approach to treating cancer by consulting our specialists — surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, diagnostic radiologists, pathologists, and more. This multidisciplinary partnership results in improved patient care.”

Today, we’re thrilled to share that Missy is cancer free.
