"The best way to support our community is to support this hospital." –Dr. Gordon Handte

Dr. Gordon Handte joined the medical staff of Centre Community Hospital, now Mount Nittany Medical Center, more than 25 years ago and went on to form Centre Pathology Associates shortly thereafter. He retired as a hospital-based member of the medical staff and as Director of the medical lab at Penn State in 2014.

Dr. Handte has not only contributed to the success of our health system as a physician but also as a consistent donor to The Foundation for Mount Nittany Medical Center. He and his wife, Cheryl, made their first gift to the hospital the year Gordon joined the medical staff.

Gordon and Cheryl have long participated in The Foundation’s special events and have provided donations and major gifts to the Medical Center’s laboratory and nursing staffs and special initiative fundraising campaigns. Gordon has served as a volunteer fundraiser, encouraging physicians to follow his example. Each of his fellow physicians at Centre Pathology Associates contributed to the Commitment to Distinction campaign.

The Handtes cite their children, Lynne and Maura, as significant inspiration for their philanthropy at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Says Handte, “My daughters were born at Mount Nittany Medical Center, so Cheryl and I have a special connection to the place. We’ve been patients for other things, too. This is our hospital.”
