On behalf of everyone who works and serves at Mount Nittany Health, thank you for the unbelievable outpouring of gifts and support. Your support in letters, emails, community gestures, and financially to our Foundation has been incredible. These are truly extraordinary times and we are grateful for the ongoing efforts of our exceptional Mount Nittany Health team.

You asked us how you could help, and have responded with generosity to the Mount Nittany Health COVID-19 Response Fund - created to support our staff and patients. We have received gifts of food, protective equipment, hotel accommodations and innovative support from businesses that are creating products for us in new and unique ways. One of our favorite expressions of support is the cut metal sign designed and placed by community member Nick Spicer, which simply reminds our staff: “We are... Grateful.” We pass this every day, every shift on our way to take care of our community and each other.

We have taken many steps to protect the community, our staff and patients. We screen every person for symptoms and risks for exposure to COVID-19 before entering any of our facilities. We have implemented masking and many other precautions to ensure that if you need care during this time, you are confident that we are ready to take care of you. We have outdoor collection sites in Centre and Mifflin counties for safe, convenient access to testing. We triage Emergency Department patients at the ED entrance to ensure they are quickly and effectively directed to the appropriate setting and level of care. In April, we also opened a dedicated unit for hospitalized patients that are positive with COVID-19. Mount Nittany Physician Group has also recently introduced telehealth video visits so you can see your doctor from the comfort and convenience of your home. Many of you have already benefited from this new service, which we expect will be an important part of how we provide care in the future.

These are challenging times and our lives and work have been disrupted in so many ways. Your efforts to maintain social distancing, mask in public, wash your hands and take other steps to limit exposure have been essential in managing the spread of the virus in our area. Of all the things you have done for us, modifying your behavior has been among the most important and it will continue to be vital as we gradually re-open the economy.

We simply could not do all of this without our wonderful staff and without the support of our community. Your generosity gives us hope and encouragement every day that we are indeed in this together, and we will come out of all of this stronger and better together.
