What is ExpressCARE?

ExpressCARE is a walk-in care service provided by Mount Nittany Health, offering immediate care for non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries. Conveniently open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., seven days a week, ExpressCARE ensures that you and your loved ones can access quality care without waiting for an appointment.

Here are just a few of the common issues we treat at ExpressCARE:

• Allergies and sinus infections
• Coughs and wheezing
• Sore throat
• Cold and flu symptoms
• Bronchitis, pneumonia and other infections
• Ear problems, like ear pain or wax buildup
• Urinary discomfort, including frequent or painful urination
• Minor skin conditions, like rashes, bug bites and itching
• Minor injuries, like cuts, bruises, scrapes, burns and sprains
• Pink eye
• Nausea or vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Headaches
• Joint pain

In addition to treating everyday health concerns, ExpressCARE also offers physical exams that may be required for driver’s licenses or participation in school sports, as well as on-site lab tests including:

• COVID testing (even if you don’t have symptoms)
• Flu testing
• Urinalysis for urinary infections
• Blood glucose tests
• STD tests
• Pregnancy tests
• Strep throat tests

ER vs. ExpressCARE: Where should you go?

It’s important to know whether your condition calls for the Emergency Room or walk-in care at ExpressCARE. While ExpressCARE is perfect for minor, non-life-threatening issues, some situations require the advanced care of an ER.

Visit ExpressCARE for issues including:

• Symptoms of a cold, flu or allergies
• Sore throat or discomfort in the ears
• Minor injuries such as scrapes, small cuts or bruises
• Mild skin issues like rashes, pink eye or sunburns
• Symptoms of respiratory infections

Visit the ER for issues including:

• Difficulty breathing
• Chest pain or rapid heartbeat
• Severe burns
• Heavy bleeding
• Broken bones
• Signs of a stroke, such as sudden difficulty speaking or vision changes
• Suspected poisoning or overdose

The ExpressCARE experience

You can walk in to any ExpressCARE location during operating hours — just ensure you bring a photo ID, your health insurance information and a list if your current medications.

When you arrive at ExpressCARE, you’ll be welcomed by our courteous staff, who will guide you through a quick and simple check-in process. Afterward, you’ll be seen promptly by one of our skilled healthcare professionals.

They will assess your illness or injury, perform any necessary testing and, if needed, can prescribe medication, ensuring you get back to feeling your best sooner.

You can use your insurance at ExpressCARE, but fees vary by plan. We recommend reaching out to your insurance provider if you’re unsure about costs.
